Hans Josef Weber was born in Schwaz on 31 October 1874. In 1889, the district doctor Dr Lenz obtained a scholarship for the talented boy, who subsequently studied for three years at the arts and crafts department of the Innsburck State School of Applied Arts. In 1892 he moved to Vienna to the court theatre painting studio of the Enneberger Rottonara. 1894/96 Studies at the Munich Art Academy 1905 First meeting with Albin Egger-Lienz. Plein-air works, stone drawings and posters for the Stubai Valley railway, the Valsugana and Vigiljoch railways follow. After two stays in Rome, he is called up for military service, which Weber completes as a war painter. 1928 Marriage to Christa Matscher from Schlanders, with whom he settles permanently in Eppan in 1933. 1936 Participates in the Venice Biennale. This was followed by various exhibitions, where he was well received, but where financial success failed to materialise. Hans Weber-Tyrol died on 14 July 1957 in a clinic in Merano after a short illness. He is laid to rest in the cemetery of St Michael/Eppan.
