Eduard Habicher makes the iron shout aloud, but then gives it the lightness of a sigh. He goes in for dynamism of form but with the controlled irregularity of a pice of writing. In this Habicher has clearly absorber the whole language of twentieth-century sculpture and given it a stamp of his own, a recognizable code distinguishing it from other forms of poses with which might conceivably be bracketed. The toil, labour and weight of sculpture remain unchanged, but instead of constructional values (again thinking of Burri's day or Antony Caro) he transports the material into an grammar, a language of its own that needs no other reference… The achievement is a kind of coincidentia oppositorum reflecting great professional skill and intelligence. This too ics contemporary sculpture: to be able to cohabit with settings, address the problem of space effects and architecture, without forgetting its origins at the forge and the workshop...
